A good night’s sleep is important for the overall well-being of every member of a family. Some people say that “sleep is for the weak,” but medical reports are stating otherwise.
Studies have shown that getting an eight-hour-long good night sleep is beneficial for one’s overall wellbeing, especially, among children. The 2015 study of the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry shows that children’s sleep patterns have a direct impact on their behaviour and on their academic performance. And to remind everyone about the importance of having good night sleep for the whole family, especially these very trying times, Dr Keith Aguilera, president of the Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine Inc., shared the negative impacts of not having the proper amount of sleep. The side effects “If you have sleep disruption, it can affect your physical health,” he says. Sleep disruption is pertaining to interrupted sleep pattern, causing the eight-hour-long sleep cycle to break. “If you have sleep disruption, it can also affect your mental health,” he continues. “A lot of people with sleep disruption would have anxiety, would have depression. Sleep disruption can also lead to hypertension, to diabetes. It also affects your performance, especially in children with their studies, your performance at work, your driving ability, and things like that.” To further emphasized the importance of proper rest and sleep, Dr Keith cited some facts about the effects of lack of sleep based on the study conducted in the US. It states that, in the US alone, 71,000 people suffer injuries every year due to sleep-related accidents, 1,550 of these individuals die annually. On top of that, studies have also shown that “46% percent of individuals with frequent sleep disturbances reportedly missing works or event, or making errors at work compare to 15 percent of healthy sleepers.” Invest in the right beds With all of these facts, Dr Keith then encouraged every family to invest in comfortable beds. “The truth is, we spend up to one-third of our lives sleeping. The best investment for your life is getting a good bed,” he says. “Sleep is a basic human need, much like eating and drinking, and is crucial to our overall health and well-being. Quality sleep is crucial to ensure good health and quality of life. Good sleep is practically free—you just have to help yourself.” This is something celebrity couple and sleep advocates Doug and Chesca Kramer agreed to. According to the couple, when they were still building their home, they made sure that they invest in good beds for the whole family, like the quality range at Bed King. “Sleep for us is very important. I don’t know if people noticed but when we did our home tour video, every single mattress in our house is all Uratex Premium Touch Viscoluxe, so we make sure that the kids get at least eight hours of sleep,” Dough says. “They need the rest for all the activities. It’s very important for them to be very well-rested and wake up on the right side of the bed. If you have a nice mattress, you save yourself from having backaches, from having sleepless nights, and all these things that come in when your mattress is not so good.” Article from https://mb.com.ph/
